Tyzine (Tetrahydrozoline Nasal Spray) is a sympathomimetic drug that causes vasoconstriction of the blood vessels. It is used as a nasal spray for the relief of nasal congestion associated with allergies.

- It is used for the symptomatic treatment of nasal congestion.
Tyzine (Tetrahydrozoline Nasal Spray) Dose in Adults
Tyzine (Tetrahydrozoline Nasal Spray) Dose in the treatment of Nasal congestion:
- Intranasal: Instill 2 to 4 drops or 3 to 4 sprays of 0.1% solution into each nostril every 3 or 4 hourly as required. The minimum duration between two doses should be three hours.

Children 2-6 years:
- Instill 2 or 3 drops of 0.05% solution into each nostril every 4 to 6 hours as needed. The duration between two doses should not be less than three hours.
- Children >6 years: Refer to adult dosing.

- Children younger than six years old should avoid the 0.1% solution.

Somnolence
- Drug overdose may result in drowsiness in children.
- Overdosed children may experience excessive sweating, hypotension and/or shock.
- To avoid side effects, the recommended dosage should not exceed.

- Sympathimetics should be avoided by patients with cardiovascular disease.

Endocrine disorders:
- Patients with endocrine conditions such as diabetes or hyperthyroidism, should be cautious when using the drug.

How to administer Tyzine (Tetrahydrozoline Nasal Spray)?
- It is administered intranasally.
- The patient should blow the nose and clean it before use.
- The tip of the spray should be inserted into the nostril while the other nostril is blocked.
- The medicine is sprayed into the nostril and the patient asked to keep breathing with the same nostril for a brief time.
Mechanism of action of Tyzine (Tetrahydrozoline Nasal Spray):
- It is a sympathomimetic medication that causes nasal vasoconstriction through stimulation of the alpha-adrenergic nerves in the nasal mucosa.
