Lumigan (Bimatoprost) is a synthetic analog of prostaglandin that increases the outflow of aqueous humor resulting in a reduction in the intraocular pressure. It is used to treat the following conditions:

For the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension (Lumigan, Vistitan).

Treatment for the growth of eyelashes (Latisse).
Lumigan (Bimatoprost) Dose in Adults
Lumigan use in the treatment of Elevated intraocular pressure:
- Instill one drop into the affected eye once a day in the evening.
- With concomitant administration of other ophthalmic solutions, separate administration by at least five minutes.
- More than once a day administration is not recommended.
Use in the treatment for the growth of eyelashes (Latisse):
- For Topical Ophthalmic use:
- Place one drop on the applicator and apply evenly along the skin of the upper eyelid at the base of eyelashes once a day at bedtime
- Use a clean applicator for the second eye.
Lumigan (Bimatoprost) Dose in Childrens
Use in the treatment of raised intraocular pressure (Lumigan):
- Adolescents older than 16 years:
- Refer to adult dosing.
Use in the treatment for the growth eyelashes (Latisse):
- Children older than 5 years and Adolescents:
- Refer to adult dosing.
Pregnancy Risk Factor: C
- Pregnancy has not been associated with adverse maternal and fetal effects.
- The lowest dose is best when used with punctual occlusion.
Bimatoprost use during breastfeeding:
- It is unknown if bimatoprost can be absorbed into breastmilk.
- The manufacturer weighs the benefits for the mother and the risks for the fetus.
Lumigan (Bimatoprost) Dose in Renal Disease:
- Dose adjustment in patients with kidney disease is not recommended by the manufacturer.
Lumigan (Bimatoprost) Dose in Liver Disease:
- Dose adjustment in patients with liver disease is not recommended by the manufacturer.
Common Side Effects of Lumigan (Bimatoprost) Include:
- Dermatologic:
- Increased growth in the number of eyelashes
- Ophthalmic:
- Conjunctival hyperemia
- Eye pruritus
Less Common Side Effects of Bimatoprost Include:
- Central nervous system:
- Headache
- Foreign body sensation of eye
- Dermatologic:
- Erythema of eyelid
- Hyperpigmentation of eyelashes
- Local skin hyperpigmentation
- Endocrine & metabolic:
- Hirsutism
- Hepatic:
- Abnormal hepatic function tests
- Infection:

Contraindication to Bimatoprost Include:
- Allergy reactions to bimatoprost and any component of this formulation
Warnings and Precautions
- Bacterial Keratitis
- Inadvertent contamination may lead to bacterial keratitis.
- Ocular effects
- Permanent brownish pigmentation may occur in the iris, eyelid skin, periorbital tissues, and eyelashes.
- Ocular inflammation:
- Patients with active intraocular inflammation or uveitis should be cautious as this may worsen the condition.
- Ocular disease:
- The use of it in patients with angle-closure, Neovascular Glaucoma, and Inflammatory Glaucoma has not yet been investigated.
- Avoid aphakic patients and pseudophakics with a damaged posterior lens capsule.

How to administer Bimatoprost?

Latisse:
- Before application, clean face, remove make-up and contact lenses.
- Apply the medicine with the sterile applicator provided and blot any excess solution with a tissue.
- Do not apply to the lower eyelash line.
- The applicators should not be reused. A new applicator should b used for the other eye.
- More than once application is not recommended and will not result in the rapid growth of the eyelashes.
- Contact lenses may be inserted after 15 minutes of administering the drug.

Lumigan, Vistitan
- It may be used with other medicines that lower the intraocular pressure.
- Contact lenses should be reinserted after 15 minutes of administering the drug.
- With concomitant administration of other ophthalmic solutions, it should be separated by an interval of 5 minutes.
