Dibucaine (Faktu) is a local anesthetic that is used for the relief of minor itching, burning, or stinging associated with burns, scrapes, skin irritation, or anorectal pain and itching in patients with hemorrhoids.

Dibucaine Uses:

  • Dermal pain/itching:
    • It is indicated for the temporary relief of pain and itching caused by burns (sunburn or minor burns), minor cuts, scrapes, insect bites, or minor skin irritation.
  • Hemorrhoids and anorectal disorders, rectal pain and itching:
    • It is used for the temporary relief of pain and itching in patients due to hemorrhoids and other anorectal disorders.

Dibucaine (Faktu) Dose in Adults:

Dibucaine (Faktu) Dose in the treatment of Dermal pain and itching:

  • Topical: Apply to the affected area thrice or 4 times a day.
  • The maximum daily dose is 30 g/day.

Dibucaine (Faktu) Dose in the treatment of Hemorrhoids and anorectal disorders, rectal pain, and itching:

  • Topical: Apply to the affected anal area (externally) thrice or four times a day.

Dibucaine (Faktu) Dose in Childrens:

Dibucaine (Faktu) Dose in the treatment of Dermal pain and itching:

  • Children ≥2 years weighing ≥16 kg and Adolescents:
    • Topical: Apply to the affected area three or four times a day.
    • The maximum daily dose in children is 7.5 g/day and in adults is 30 g/day.

Dibucaine (Faktu) Dose in the treatment of Hemorrhoids, anorectal disorders, and rectal pain or itching:

  • Children ≥12 years and Adolescents:
    • Topical: Apply to the affected area (externally) three or four times a day.

Pregnancy Risk Category: C

  • Its use in pregnancy is not well-documented. 
  • It has not yet been tested in pregnancy studies with humans or animals.
  • It should not be used by pregnant or lactating mothers without caution.

How to administer Dibucaine (Faktu)?

  • It is intended for external use only. Use in or around the eyes should be avoided.
  • Before applying it over and around the rectal area, clean the area with soap and water and then rinse thoroughly.
  • Gently dry the area by patting or blotting with a soft cloth or tissue paper.
  • The product should not be applied inside the rectum (with fingers, applicator, or any mechanical device provided).   

Mechanism of action of Dibucaine (Faktu):

It inhibits depolarization and blocks the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses by decreasing the neuronal permeability to sodium ions.

The onset of action:

  • Within 15 minutes

Duration:

  • 2 to 4 hours

Absorption:

  • It is poorly absorbed via intact skin. It may get absorbed through mucous membranes and excoriated skin.
