Luzu Cream (Luliconazole) - Uses, Dose, Side effects, MOA

Luzu Cream (Luliconazole) is a topical antifungal cream that is used in the treatment of superficial fungal infections including athletes foot, jock itch, and ringworm.

Luliconazole Uses:

  • Fungal infections:

    • It is used topically in the treatment of interdigital tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea corporis (ringworm), and tinea cruris (Jock Itch), caused by Trichophyton rubrum and Epidermophyton floccosum.

Luliconazole (Luzu Cream) Dose in Adults:

Luliconazole (Luzu Cream) Dose in the treatment of Fungal infections: Topical:

  • Tinea pedis:

    • Apply the cream once daily to the affected area for about two weeks. Apply to the affected area and about 1 inch of the immediate surrounding area.
  • Tinea cruris or tinea corporis:

    • Apply the cream to the affected area its immediate surrounding area (about 1 inch of the immediate surrounding areas) once a day for one week.

Use in Children:

Refer to adults dosing.


Pregnancy Risk Category: C

  • The drug is absorbed slowly into the body's systemic circulation. Animal reproduction studies have shown that adverse events can occur.

Luliconazole use during breastfeeding:

  • It is unknown if the drug will be excreted into breastmilk.
  • Manufacturers recommend weighing the benefits and risks of drug treatment for the mother against the benefits of breastfeeding.

Side effects of Luliconazole (Luzu Cream):

  • rendness
  • cellulitis
  • systemic signs of allergic reactions like fever, itching, hives, hypotension, and swelling of the lips and tongue.

  • Use it in the right way:

    • It should not be used in the eyes, mouth, or intravaginal. It is not indicated for the treatment of fungal infections.

How to administer Luliconazole (Luzu Cream)?

  • It is indicated for topical use only.
  • Avoid using over mucous membranes such as inside the oral cavity, intravaginal, or inside the eyes.
  • Apply the cream over the affected areas and about one inch of the immediate surrounding areas. Wash hands following the application of the cream.

Mechanism of action of Luliconazole (Luzu Cream):

  • It is an antifungal azole drug that inhibits ergosterol synthesis by inhibiting enzyme lanosterol-demethylase.
  • This results in lower levels of ergosterol, and increased lanosterol.

Absorption:

    • After topical application, small amounts of the drug can be absorbed
