Terbinafine pregnancy risk category: B
- After topical application, systemic absorption is reduced.
- Topical therapy can be used if antifungal treatment is not possible to delay until after pregnancy.
Terbinafine use during breastfeeding:
- Breast milk contains terbinafine after oral administration.
- After topical application, systemic absorption is reduced.
- Breastfeeding mothers shouldn't apply topical creams to their breasts, and infants shouldn't come in contact with treated skin.
Topical Terbinafine cream Dose in Renal Disease:
- No dose adjustment is recommended when used for topical purposes.

Contraindication to Terbinafine Include:
- Hypersensitivity to terbinafine and any component of the formulation
Warnings and precautions
- Local irritation
- If irritation/sensitivity develops, stop therapy and institute appropriate alternative therapy.
Monitor:
Monitor for the resolution in symptoms.
How to apply topical terbinafine cream?
Topical:
- Wash affected the area with soap and water before using and dry completely
- wash hands after use.
Spray:
- Hold 4 to 6 inches from the skin during application.
Mechanism of action of Terbinafine:
- It is a synthetically manufactured allylamine derivative which inhibits squalene-epoxidase. This enzyme is crucial in sterol biosynthesis in yeasts.
- This causes fungal cell death and a defect in the ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane.
